In the exhibition “Benny Andrews: Portraits, A Real Person Before the Eyes” at Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, the artist uses collage-based paintings to tell the stories of his friends and family. We look at these materials and methods along with his article published in Arts Magazine (Summer, 1970) on founding the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition to promote black artists and curators.
