Scottish artist Michael Fullerton paints portraits of people associated with power, collusion, corruption, and control – alongside creating sculptures and wall installations that further propagate his cryptic narratives. Here, paintings of Charles Douglas Jackson (as Harry Potter), Gustave Courbet (in exile), advertisements for Lockheed Martin (as romance novel covers), two prominent George Osborns (as twins), and works containing – in Fullerton’s invented paint – the hormone oxytocin, create a web hidden meanings. But a question remains: Is Fullerton a traditional painter or conceptual artist? Is his work about the image or the idea – especially a hidden one? See for yourself in our review of “Victoria’s Secret Diary.”
